The news comes after an AT&T customer and MacRumors reader got in touch with the carrier after noticing his subsidized upgrade eligibility had been pushed back by 5 months. During the cause of explaining the company’s policy the well-informed representative claimed that Apple had told AT&T that there will be no new iPhone in June or July.
Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.While this ties in nicely with speculation that the next iPhone will actually be announced at the event usually reserved for iPod news later in the year, information from a customer support representative isn’t known for being accurate. Either this rep has the inside scoop or is just trying to move through their job queue.
Still, it’s just another data point worth bearing in mind when trying to work out just how long we have to save up for a flashy new iPhone!
